No Results In Life? You Need A New Plan!
By Dwight Bain, LMHC

Are you on track with your life and business? If not, why not?
- Do you have a master life plan?
- Do you have a trusted coach to guide you
through the process?
College sports tracks
winners and losers. Football bowl games and basketball sweet 16 tournament's
are all about results, not excuses.
Many people pay more attention to college scores and
rankings than they do with their own life. If you don't have a scoreboard, how
can you keep score? If you don't have a coach to challenge you how can you
improve? If you aren't training everyday, how can you win?
A leader told me recently how lonely she felt… and I said,
“you're approaching this the wrong way." Great leaders are part of great
teams; full of great players, great coaches, great trainers, trusted venders,
clients, partners and stakeholders. The more connected you are, the more
successful you will be.
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might,
for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor
planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” - King Solomon
Life is changing fast, artificial intelligence is replacing
jobs at a shocking rate, global competition comes from every corner of the
globe and customer expectations have never been higher. You must be continually
growing and changing or risk being left behind or failing.
I don’t want you to fail.
Over twenty years ago I was speaking at a coach training
event in Atlanta with my friend John Maxwell, who is considered America’s
number one leadership expert. We were challenging coaches about the essential
need for personal development. John pointed out that the average man in the
United States reads fewer than 6 books in his lifetime after graduating from
High School… and the average corporate CEO of a Fortune 100 company reads more
than 6 books a month! One guy makes $50,000 a year and the other one makes
$50,000 a month so the correlation that “readers are leaders” held true
economically.
I suspect you agree with that statement or you wouldn’t be
reading this now, but think about it, if you need continual information from
reading and personal development to stay competitive in this world, (and you
do), every day is a new beginning. Every day you need to begin again to be your
best, every day you need to do measurable activities that build integrity to
make you less like the culture and more effective for a greater purpose. In a
few jobs you may be able to still function with information you received in
college 30 years ago, but not many.
Leaders must continually stretch to begin again, and it
happens every single day. No time off, because the competition won't take time
off. You are either growing, improving and developing, or you are falling
behind.
Growth happens every day for the best coaches… every day is
a new beginning. In the world of sports a coach can’t rest on the fact that his
team won last week… since there is another big game this week. You never stop
and you have to get better each time, or they find a new coach. I have found
the same to be true in life. Improve - or be replaced.
CNN reported “Coaching now is part of the standard
leadership development training for elite executives and talented
up-and-comers.” (www.CNN.com) Harvard Business Review (www.HBR.org) said it
this way, “The goal of coaching is the goal of good management: to make the most
of an organization’s valuable resources.”
Coaches draw out the best in others, because they draw out
the best in themselves. When a coach stops getting results in the world of
sports - they get fired. And they should. Every day is a new beginning, so every
day I want to be around coaches who draw out their best to make a positive
difference, so they can challenge me to be my best. I suspect you desire the
same. Winning because of continual growth and improvement from coaches who
weren't afraid to ask the hard questions to challenge potential.
Here is a pivotal thought on this subject from John Maxwell.
“All of us have benefited from the industrial age, the technology age, and most
recently, the age of information. And without question, we have entered into
the most influential age … the age of association. Never before has it been
more crucial to be connected to, or associated with, people of influence. This
is especially true for people who are in my industry…. those who are authors,
speakers, trainers and coaches. There is no doubt that the biggest impact to
your personal and professional life will be determined by “who” you are
associated with, and your “connection” to them.”
Do you agree? Are you connected? Do you want to be
successful - because if you do then you must abandon the ‘lone ranger’
mentality of trying to figure life out by yourself and take bold steps to find
a coach who will challenge you toward growth and potential. If you want results
- stop talking or complaining about what is missing. Replace that with
something positive and for most of us the first step is by finding a coach who
isn't afraid to challenge your potential to achieve greater results.
