How To Find Clarity When Feeling Lost And Hopeless In Life

Image
By: Brian Murray, LMHC, NCC At times we can all feel confused about life. We work and grind our way through along with the dissatisfaction of having fulfilling work and relationships. We fall into a job or a marriage without ever really understanding who we are or what we are getting involved with. Years go by and we live with resentment, frustration and anxiety about who we are and what we are doing. We change careers, end the marriages and yet we still feel empty and incomplete. What is going on? Searching for direction and knowing who we are, and where we are going can be difficult. This searching can be especially challenging after a major life event such as the death of a loved one, a lost marriage or job loss. Sometimes big changes can leave us feeling liberated, and other times it can feel like the world is coming to an end. At times these major life changes cause us to wonder about what we are really doing here. It begs the question of what is the meaning of all of th...

Who Knows?

By Linda Riley, LMFT When King David took Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, God told him through the prophet Nathan that because of this great sin, the son born to them would die. After this the child became ill. David pleaded with God for his child. He fasted and spent the nights lying on the ground praying and refusing to eat. The child died on the seventh day. David’s servants feared telling David, as he may do something desperate. But when David heard the news, he got up, washed, changed his clothes and worshipped God. Then he requested food and he ate. His servants were puzzled by his behavior and asked him; "why did you fast and weep when the child was alive and get up and eat now that the child is dead?" David’s answer is interesting; he responded “while the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, WHO KNOWS? the Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live. But now that he is dead, why should I fast, can I bring him back again? I will go to ...

Smart School Choice builds Strong Kids

The strategic changes needed to bring out the best in your children By Dwight Bain, Nationally Certified Counselor & Certified Life Coach Recently I had dinner with my friends Bill and Nancy Palmer and the subject of school choice came up; mostly because at one time they had each of their five children in five different schools. If you think that schedule sounds crazy, then you’ve never met the five remarkable young adults they raised who have launched successfully out into the world. It was extremely stressful at times to keep things organized but they were committed to building strong kids and were creative enough to always find options to help each child grow in strength and confidence. How did they do it? Simple, they picked the educational experiences that were the best fit for each of their children at each stage of life regardless of convenience. Many times parents are afraid of school change, or don’t realize they have so many choices available to them in guiding their kids...

Hope is the Great Activator

by Zig Ziglar "Without hope what good is tomorrow?" We are surrounded by people who need hope in their lives. We don't often see their need because a lack of hope is not easily communicated. People aren't prone to say, "I need hope." Nonetheless, when we listen closely, we can hear the cries of the hope-needers. Or oftentimes we can see it in their actions. For example: The student with no hope of passing won't study. Why bother? The sales person with no hope of making the sale won't make the call. What's the purpose? The couple whose marriage is in trouble won't seek counseling because (they think) it's all over anyway. The relative who hasn't spoken to you for three years won't try. What's the hope? The senior citizen who doesn't think anyone would be interested in helping him won't ask. The nurse who doesn't think anyone appreciates her wisdom won't offer it. The manager who doesn't see a chance of being...
